A High Court in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, has sentenced 26-year-old Omodara Dada to seven years in prison for burglary and theft.
Dada was initially arraigned before Justice Lekan Ogunmoye on July 19, 2022, on a charge of armed robbery.
However, the court found him guilty of the lesser offense of burglary under Section 323 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State.
The charge stated that on February 13, 2022, Dada, armed with a knife, robbed Fakiyesi Tope, a hotel manager, of a mobile phone valued at ₦64,000 and ₦8,000 in cash. The victim caught Dada attempting to steal his plasma television.

During the trial, the prosecutor, Albert Adeyemi, presented three witnesses and submitted several pieces of evidence, including the knife and the stolen cash.
Despite an appeal for leniency by Dada’s counsel, Justice Ogunmoye sentenced him to seven years in prison, with the sentence commencing from his detention date at the Federal Correctional Facility in Ado Ekiti.
