A teenager, Abiodun Adewuyi, has been sentenced to three years in prison for stealing water taps in Osun State. The Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ede, Osun State, delivered the judgment after Adewuyi was found guilty of the offence.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osun State arrested Adewuyi, 18 years old, after he was caught removing the items in the Durodola community in Owode-Ede town. Kehinde Adeleke, the spokesperson for the NSCDC Osun State Command, provided details of the case.
Adewuyi was apprehended on April 16 at about 5:40 pm in Durodola while removing two brass water taps. Upon his arrest, he was found in possession of a total of seven water taps. Investigations revealed that he had been selling the stolen items to buyers of scrap metals.
The offence committed by Adewuyi is contrary to Section 390 of the Criminal Code Law of Osun State. He was arraigned before Chief Magistrate V.A. Adedokun at the Magistrate Court in Ede on April 22, where he was convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment.
In response to the incident, Dr. Michael Adaralewa, the Commandant of NSCDC in Osun State, urged parents and guardians to caution their children against engaging in criminal activities that could tarnish their family’s reputation. He emphasized the commitment of the NSCDC to rooting out criminal elements in the state and solicited timely intelligence from the public to prevent crimes.
