Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that the ongoing crises within major opposition parties across the country are being orchestrated by the current administration.
Speaking at the Social Democratic Party (SDP) headquarters on Tuesday, March 11, El-Rufai claimed that the internal conflicts affecting the Labour Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) are being fueled by the government led by President Bola Tinubu.
He said, “The crisis in the Labour Party is contrite and funded by the government of the day, everyone knows it. Jumping from one court to another is all designed to distract the party leadership from focusing on their whole functions. The same thing is happening in the PDP, even in the NNPP.
“They have been designed for distraction by people who have been resourced to go and cause problems in NNPP,” the former Kaduna governor said.
He further alleged that individuals have been financially motivated to create chaos within the NNPP to destabilize the party’s leadership.
El-Rufai’s claims come just 24 hours after he officially left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the SDP.
Explaining his decision, the former governor said he resigned from the APC because the party’s current leadership no longer upholds the ideology upon which it was founded.

Commenting on reports that Rabiu Kwankwaso, a founding member of the NNPP, was recently ousted by a faction of the party, El-Rufai insisted that these crises are carefully planned efforts to weaken opposition leadership.
He said, “The last thing I read about NNPP was that one faction of the party has expelled Kwankwaso and the seating governor. When you see things like that you’ll know it’s contrived crisis. Which party sacks a seating governor and that is the only governor they have.
“You’ll know it is contrived; I don’t have the details and I cannot mention names,” El-Rufai stated.
