The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’, has successfully intercepted a colossal haul of contraband goods. The seizure, which took place in October, included 13 trailer loads of foreign parboiled rice, 17 vehicles, and other items, collectively valued at a staggering N1,241,777,700.
This information was unveiled in a statement released on the official X handle of the Nigerian Customs Service on Wednesday, November 8. The Acting Comptroller of the Unit, Hussein Ejibunu, shed light on the operation during a press briefing at the Unit’s Headquarters in Lagos. He revealed that the 17 vehicles were seized by smugglers attempting to flout the law.
Ejibunu underscored the unit’s unwavering commitment to making the remainder of the year increasingly challenging for smugglers, thereby safeguarding the nation’s economic interests. Other seizures during the month included 14,825 litres of premium motor spirit, 657 pieces of used tyres, 202kg of cannabis sativa, 39 bales of second-hand clothing, 100 packs of tomato ketchup, four units of used motorcycles, 100 cartons of used soaps, and 730 sacks of hides and skin.

The operation of the Nigerian Customs Service also led to the arrest of nine suspects, some of whom are currently facing prosecution in various states within the zone. Ejibunu appealed to patriotic Nigerians to continue supporting the unit by providing credible information to aid in the fight against economic sabotage.
