Dana Air has officially acknowledged reports regarding an incident involving one of its aircraft, registration number 5N BKI, which skidded off the runway at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Tuesday morning.
The airline confirmed this in a statement released on the same day.
In the statement, the airline expressed regret over the incident, explaining that the aircraft, which was flying from Abuja to Lagos, veered off the runway during landing. Despite the concerning situation, Dana Air emphasized that no casualties were reported, offering a sense of relief.
Furthermore, the airline stated that it promptly informed both the Accident Investigation Bureau and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority about the incident, adhering to protocol and ensuring transparency in handling the matter.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of stringent safety measures in aviation operations.
The statement read, “Dana Air regrets to inform the public of a runway incursion involving one of our aircraft, registration number 5N BKI, which was flying from Abuja to Lagos today 23/04/24
“We are relieved to confirm that all 83 passengers and crew onboard the flight disembarked safely without injuries or scare as the crew handled the situation with utmost professionalism.”
“We have also updated the AIB and NCAA on the incident and the aircraft involved has been grounded by our maintenance team for further investigation.”

The management expressed gratitude to both the airport authorities and its crew for their efforts in ensuring the safety of all passengers onboard the aircraft.
The statement added, “We wish to thank the airport authorities, and our crew for their very swift response in ensuring the safe disembarkation of all passengers following the incident and our sincere apologies and appreciation to the passengers on the affected flight for their patience and understanding.
“We wish to reassure our passengers that their safety will always be our top priority, and we are cooperating fully with the relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
