The Dangote Refinery has once again extended the date for the commencement of domestic petrol supply, pushing back the previously scheduled mid-August 2024 start.
This follows an earlier shift from July to August 2024.
However, there is no official statement on the reason for the delay, a source revealed that this was not unconnected to the crude supply crisis the 650,000 barrels per day refinery is battling.
“The commencement of fuel will come this August, however, the crude supply crisis facing the company has made things difficult”, a source told Daily Post anonymously.
This development comes amid a public dispute between the Dangote Group and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) over the supply of crude oil.
The NUPRC recently claimed to have facilitated the delivery of 26 million barrels of crude to the refinery between January and June 2024, a claim that Dangote Group has denied.
In response to the situation, the Centre for Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE), through its Director, Muda Yusuf, criticized the ongoing regulatory challenges facing Nigerian manufacturers and urged regulatory bodies to act with greater discretion.
The delay persists despite a directive from Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which ordered the sale of crude oil to the Dangote Refinery and other local refineries in Naira, in an effort to ease supply issues.
