Dangote Refutes Allegations of Illicit Cement Export to Cameroon

Dangote Cement Plc has refuted claims of attempting to export cement to Cameroon, following the interception of two trucks carrying 900 bags each from the Obajana cement plant.

The trucks were en route to Jamtari in Maiha Local Government Area, Adamawa State, based on a customer’s request.

Security agents in Adamawa accused the drivers of violating Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s executive order, which bans the transportation of food and building materials across the country’s border through Adamawa routes. The agents suspected an attempt to export banned products to the Republic of Cameroon.

Dangote Cement’s Chief Branding and Communication Officer, Mr Anthony Chiejina, countered the allegations, pointing out that the company operates a functional cement plant in Cameroon.

Chiejina clarified that the trucks were delivering products to a customer, and the security agents overlooked crucial details on the Waybill.

After the interception, Dangote Cement officials were summoned by the DSS Adamawa State to explain the situation.

Chiejina highlighted that the company provided evidence of the trucks’ movement, tracing their route from the DCP Obajana to the point of arrest by soldiers.

“The officials were able to show the tracking movement of the trucks from the DCP Obajana to the point where they were arrested by the soldiers,” he stated.
