Daniel Ojukwu Detained by Ally of Tinubu- Omoyele Sowore

Daniel Ojukwu

In a bid to secure the release of Daniel Ojukwu, who is currently detained at the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID) in Abuja, Omoyele Sowore, a Nigerian politician and prominent activist, has revealed that Daniel Ojukwu is being held by an associate of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Last Wednesday, Parallel Facts reported that Daniel Ojukwu was detained for allegedly violating the Cybercrime Act.

Ojukwu’s arrest, later transferred to Abuja, followed his report on alleged financial mismanagement involving a senior government official.

However, Sowore disclosed his encounter with Daniel Ojukwu during a visit to the detention facility.

According to Sowore, Ojukwu is being held under the auspices of Hon. Orelope Adejoke Adefulire, a former Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and an ally of Asiwaju Tinubu.

Expressing concern over Ojukwu’s detention, Sowore went to his X account and wrote: “Nigerian journalist’s arrest last week triggers criticism of worsening press freedoms.

” @Adeyanjudeji and I met Daniel Ojukwu yesterday in detention at the FCIID in Abuja and found out he was being detained by one of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s people, Hon Orelope Adejoke Adefulire, former SSA to Muhammadu Buhari on SDGs. We tried everything we could to get him released, and the efforts would continue today.”

The Associated Press (AP) disclosed that eight journalists have been detained under the administration of Bola Tinubu, whose government claims to support press freedoms, a stance reiterated during recent World Press Freedom Day events.

AP also reports that Nigeria ranks 112th out of 180 countries in the latest World Press Freedom Index by Reporters Without Borders. Journalists in Nigeria often face challenges like abductions, arrests, and prosecution, especially after reporting on widespread corruption and governance issues in the oil-rich nation.
