Broadcaster and public affairs analyst Oseni Rufai has warned of looming economic danger, citing a recent projection by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that Nigeria’s debt servicing could consume all of the federal government’s revenue by 2026 if urgent fiscal reforms are not undertaken.
Rufai, who posted the warning on his official X account on Tuesday, June 3, stressed the need for the Tinubu administration to take decisive action.
“The International Monetary Fund has warned that debt servicing may gulp 100 per cent of the Federal Government’s revenue by 2026 if the government fails to implement adequate measures to improve revenue generation,” Rufai wrote.
In a follow-up post the same day, he offered pointed advice to Tinubu, highlighting what he believes are critical flaws in the current fiscal and administrative structure.
“Reduce your excessive borrowing. Reduce this budget fat, too many bogus projects. Cut your own presidential expenditure. Limit your travel expenses,” Rufai wrote.

He further urged the federal government to redirect resources to critical public sectors: “Cut government waste and invest this in the primary sector of health and Education.”
Rufai also emphasized leadership reform, saying the country must “prioritize competence over cronies,” and advised Tinubu to “listen more to the people.”
In addition, he called for increased food production and stronger efforts to curb insecurity.
Rufai’s comments come amid growing public concern over rising national debt, mounting living costs, and allegations of reckless government spending under the current administration.
