Delta Community Razed by Soldiers After Killing of 16 Military Personnel, Residents Flee

The Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State where sixteen soldiers were killed have been razed.

According to reports from Channels Television, there are strong suspicions that enraged soldiers may have been responsible for the destruction following the deaths of their comrades.

Meanwhile, efforts to apprehend the perpetrators are ongoing, with some arrests already made by soldiers under the command of Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding the 6th Division of the Nigerian Army.

Residents of the coastal community have fled to nearby Ughelli due to fears of retaliation by soldiers patrolling the creeks.

Early on Saturday, soldiers from the joint task force, under the supervision of Major General Jamal Abdussalam, discovered the bodies of fourteen slain soldiers in Okuama community. Some of the bodies showed signs of beheading, while others had their stomachs and hearts removed.

At the NDDC jetty in the coastal Delta community, the bodies of the commanding officer and the two majors were found floating along the riverbank, while others were found on land.

The deceased military personnel had responded to a distress call following a communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities in Delta State before they were killed on Thursday, March 14th.
