The Delta State governorship election petition tribunal has affirmed the victory of Sheriff Oborevwori, dismissing the petition filed by the former deputy senate president, Ovie Omo-Agege.
The Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, led by Justice C.H. Ahuchaogu, dismissed the petition filed by former Deputy President Senate Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressive Congress (APC) on Friday.
The petition challenged the victory of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election held on March 18. The tribunal ruled that the petition lacked merit and was speculative, as it contained unsubstantiated allegations.
In the March 18 governorship election, Omo-Agege of the APC, who garnered a total of 240,229 votes, was defeated by Oborevwori of the PDP, who received a total of 360,234 votes. The petitioners failed to prove allegations of non-compliance with the Electoral Act and corrupt practices beyond a reasonable doubt, leading to the dismissal of the petition.
The tribunal has yet to rule on the cases involving the Labour Party (LP) and the PDP, as well as the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the PDP.
