Delta State LP Candidate Ken Pela Disputes Tribunal Judgement

The Labour Party (LP) candidate for the Delta State Governorship election, Ken Pela, has come out to dispute the Tribunal judgment given on the 29th of September.

The Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, chaired by Hon. Justice Chibuzor H. Ahuchaogu, ruled that the petition filed by Ken Pela challenging the return of People’s Democratic Party candidate Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori as the winner of the March 18, 2023, elections in the state is dismissed on all grounds.

It can be recalled that prior to this ruling, Justice Chibuzor had, on June 26, 2023, dismissed the petition at the pre-trial conference stage for “abandonment.” The petitioner, dissatisfied with the judgment, then approached the Court of Appeal of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to seek relief, which was granted on August 31, 2023.

The Appeal Court then ordered that the case be returned to a panel headed by the same chairman who made the first judgment.

Hon. Justice Chibuzor delivered a judgment not different from the first; hence, the petitioner will resort to returning to the Appeal Court the second time for further hearing.

As the battle continues between Ken Pela of the Labour Party and Sheriff Oborevwori of the PDP, the former took to his X account to assure the people of victory at last and termed the opposition party as corrupt and holding Delta State for 24 years in an “ever-increasing stranglehold of waste and corruption”.
