Former Mayor of Blanco, Texas, United States, Mike Arnold has called for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, challenging Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration over the circumstances surrounding Kanu’s arrest and life imprisonment sentence.
Arnold made the remarks in a post on X titled “They Kidnapped a Man for Talking.”
In the post, the former mayor alleged that Nigerian agents apprehended Kanu at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in June 2021 without following any legal extradition process.

In the post, the former mayor alleged that Nigerian agents apprehended Kanu at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in June 2021 without following any legal extradition process.
According to Arnold, “Nigerian agents grabbed Mazi Nnamdi Kanu at Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi in June 2021. No extradition treaty. No warrant. No legal process of any kind. Just grabbed him, threw him on a plane, and brought him to Abuja.”
He added that the international policing organization Interpol had stated it was not involved in the operation, while the United Nations described the incident as an “extraordinary rendition.”

Arnold further referenced a ruling by a Kenyan court in 2025 which, according to him, found that Kanu was tortured, held without communication and that the Kenyan government was complicit in the incident.
“The UN called it extraordinary rendition. A Kenyan court ruled in 2025 that he was tortured, held without communication, and that the Kenyan government was complicit,” Arnold wrote.
He also criticised Nigeria’s response to the allegations, stating that authorities had shown little concern over the international reactions to the case.
“Nigeria’s response to all of that? Nothing. They don’t care what you think,” he wrote.
Arnold concluded his post by saying the situation should concern people globally.
“That should bother you. And I don’t mean you, Nigerian. I mean everybody,” he said.
Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has remained in the custody of Nigeria’s security authorities since he was brought back to the country in 2021. His case has continued to generate debate among political commentators, legal experts and human rights advocates both within Nigeria and internationally.
