Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has declared that the demolition of illegal structures in the FCT will continue despite widespread criticism from various quarters of the country.
Wike assured FCT residents that he remains focused on his mission to sanitize Nigeria’s capital and will not be swayed by the backlash against his administration’s actions.
“As a leader, when carrying out your responsibilities, it’s natural for individuals and groups to raise objections about your style or decisions,” he stated.
He dismissed such objections as mere distractions, emphasizing that they would not deter him from pursuing what he believes is in the best interest of the FCT and its residents.
“People must complain, but I can tell you such complaints cannot distract us. I am much focused, and since it is part of our job, we will continue to do what is necessary,” Wike said.
Reaffirming his stance, the minister asserted, ““Forget about what people say about demolition, demolition must go ahead. We demolish shanties, we demolish illegal buildings. It doesn’t matter what anybody will say.”
“At the end of the day, they will still come back to say, ‘you did a good job,” he said.
The minister also called on citizens to stay focused and not be distracted, emphasizing that his administration is committed to delivering results that benefit all Nigerians, not just a select few.
