A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Cletus Obun, has stated that it is part of his party’s responsibility to destabilise the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as a legitimate political strategy.
Obun, who is also a former chairman of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) in Cross River State, made the remark during an interview on Channels Television’s *Politics Today* on Friday.
According to Obun, destabilising rival political parties is an acceptable tactic as long as it does not lead to violence.
“If PDP comes out to say so, it’s the worst political confession to be ever made. If you’re saying that we’re able to infiltrate PDP and destabilise them, it’s part of our duty to do so, just as it is their work to also ensure that the APC is destabilised; so long as it’s not disruptive to become violent. It’s a good political weapon to use,” Obun stated.

The statement follows comments made by PDP chieftain Segun Sowunmi, who attributed the ongoing crisis within the party to Chief Bola Tinubu’s decision to appoint former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Sowunmi had criticised the appointment, claiming it undermined party cohesion, but Obun defended the strategy, emphasising the competitive nature of politics.
