Auction Winner Expresses Shock Over Disappearance of N5.5 Million Mercedes From EFCC Site After Successful Bid

A bidder in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) ongoing vehicle auction has reported suspicious activity claiming that his winning bid mysteriously disappeared from the system.

The bidder identified as @Chizytelu on X (Formerly Twitter) in apost on his handle, alleged that a Mercedes Benz C300 with lot number ADC/BEN/AU/98, which he won with a bid of N5,570,001 suddenly vanished from the auction site after his successful bid.

His post reads,”I’ve just seen magic happen right before my eyes. A C300 with lot number ADC/BEN/AU/98 that I bid on and won at N5,570,001 just vanished from the auction site.@officialEFCC una well done.

The bidder revealed that when he contacted the auctioneer about the disappearance, he was told it was “out of his hands” and was further advised to contact the EFCC directly about the matter.

This incident has raised questions among netizens about the transparency of the e-auction process, which is part of the EFCC’s larger initiative to dispose of approximately 900 vehicles allegedly recovered from corrupt politicians and other criminal investigations.

However, this incident comes just few days after the anti-graft agency announced it’s nationwide e-auction under the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management Act 2022).

Meanwhile, the EFCC is yet to respond to these allegations of irregularities in the auction process.
