A social media commentator, Nefertiti (@firstladyship), has dismissed the latest economic data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), questioning its credibility under Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
She argued that Nigerians should not expect accurate statistics from a government she claims is built on falsehood and manipulation.
The NBS recently reported that Nigeria’s unemployment rate had dropped to 4% despite widespread joblessness, while the inflation rate stood at 24%.
These figures have sparked outrage, with many Nigerians questioning their accuracy, given the persistent economic hardship.
Reacting to the report, Nefertiti took to X (formerly Twitter) to mock the statistics, alleging that the Tinubu-led administration was falsifying economic data.
“Nigerians are sleeping while Agbado is cooking numbers. You’re expecting correct statistics from someone that forged their certificate?” she tweeted.

Her statement suggests a broader skepticism about the administration’s transparency, referencing past controversies surrounding the president’s academic records.
Many argue that the government is intentionally downplaying the severity of Nigeria’s economic crisis to maintain political control.
While reacting to post, netizens @Alex_Boss7 said, “Atleast he has given bus batidiots something to jubilate over.”
@of_echoes28961 said, “Someone that graduated from a particular school before the school was found.”
@SayMyMind said, Na statistics APC de cook.
@StepbyStep101 said, ‘Na statistics we go chop, what would we normally expect from those who don’t know statistics at the first instance?.”
@UgochukwuAni2 said, ‘He wanted his supporters to think he’s doing well until they visit the market and see the cost of rice tomorrow.”
@LiteratiMisfit while lamenting on the statistics release, said, “Dem go cook taya bcos price of 1 egg na still N300. We must chop statistics.”
@EmpireOfSalem said, They said Inflation dropped by 20%, but somewhere in Lagos today, the pure water companies aren’t operating because they want to increase the price of pure water.
One pure water is now ₦50 while 3 goes for ₦100. “Tell APC not to govern by lie,” he added.
@LegitBoss14 said, “I tire ooo, They don dey Rigg statistics ooo,APC poor for brain ooo”
@Ricky_official1 said, “His supporters can hold unto dat one throughout dis week. Dem no go allow us hear word now.” Illustrating that’s if they’re not living in reality. Numbers and reality are two different things
However, inflation figures have been criticized as failing to reflect the real cost of living increases experienced by ordinary citizens.
As Nigerians continue to grapple with rising food prices, high transportation costs, and an overall decline in purchasing power, doubts over the authenticity of government-released economic data persist.
For many, the NBS report only fuels the perception that the administration is more focused on managing narratives than addressing the deepening economic crisis.
