Protests: We Will Take Action Against Any Foreign Entity Supporting Protesters; Don’t Poke Your Nose in Our Internal Affairs — Tinubu’s Govt Warns Foreign Powers

The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a strong warning to foreign nations, cautioning them against interfering in the country’s internal affairs.

This statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, during a briefing with members of the Diplomatic Corps in Abuja on Wednesday.

The warning comes in the wake of widespread protests that have erupted across major Nigerian cities, including Lagos, Benin, Osun, Oyo, Kano, Gombe, Yobe, Borno, Niger, Kebbi, and the capital, Abuja. The protests have been marked by instances of violence, with reports indicating that six Spaniards were arrested in Kano in connection with the unrest.

Ambassador Tuggar emphasized that while Nigeria values its cordial relationships with other nations, it will not tolerate any form of foreign interference in its domestic matters.

He reiterated that the government is committed to addressing the challenges facing the country through various reform programs and urged for the continued collaboration of the international community in these efforts.

The minister also warned that the Nigerian government would take appropriate action against any foreign entities found to have supported the protesters or attempted to interfere in the country’s internal issues.

He called on foreign nations to respect Nigeria’s sovereignty while assuring them of Nigeria’s commitment to maintaining strong international relations.

Tuggar added, “Nigeria cherishes and continues to value the cordial relationships that happily subsist between her and your countries and organizations and will not do anything to undermine or take for granted such relationships.

“Indeed, more than any time before now, we solicit your understanding and collaboration in the ongoing efforts of the Federal Government in addressing the economic challenges confronting the country, to achieve a better life for every Nigerians at home and abroad.”
