Former federal lawmaker Shehu Sani has issued a cautionary message to the Bola Tinubu administration, urging them to avoid spending the allocated N3.2 trillion for security and defense in the 2024 budget on frivolous expenditures.
Sani, who played an active role in the 8th National Assembly, expressed concern over the historical mismanagement of such funds, leading to looting.
Commenting on the recently submitted N27.5 trillion 2024 budget by Bola Tinubu, Sani highlighted the recurring issue of misappropriation in previous budgets, resulting in adverse effects on the welfare of soldiers.
He specifically emphasised instances where budgeted funds did not reach soldiers on the ground, impacting their access to essential resources like food, weapons, and equipment.
Drawing attention to the substantial allocation of N3.2 trillion for security and defense in the 2024 budget, Sani urged the government to exercise prudence in its utilisation.

He emphasised the critical nature of defense and security budgets, cautioning against diverting funds towards projects unrelated to national security.
“In the past, trillions were budgeted for defence and security but ended up being looted, and many soldiers complained of lack of food, weapons, and equipment, and their welfare generally neglected,” Sani wrote on his verified X handle.
“The N3.2 trillion budgeted for security in 2024 should be mindful of this. Defence and security budgets should not be wasted on building event centres, hotels, and shopping malls while terrorists are killing people every day in the country,” he advised.
