Hit-and-Run Tragedy: Driver Surrenders After Fatally Striking Lagos Sweepers

In a tragic incident on the Gbagada-Oshodi Expressway, a hit-and-run driver claimed the lives of two Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) workers.

The culprit, behind the wheel of vehicle EPE 984 DV, turned himself in to the Lagos State Police Command on the same day.

The victims were fatally crushed at their roadside duty post. Allegedly trying to evade arrest by Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officers, the driver fled the scene before surrendering to the police.

Police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the surrender, stating the suspect faces arraignment for manslaughter, possibly on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Transportation, while acknowledging the tragic deaths, refuted claims that LASTMA officers were pursuing the driver at the time. An investigation has been initiated, with the ministry vowing to hold accountable those found responsible for the incident.
