Ajaero was about to board a flight to the United Kingdom for an official assignment when he was arrested by the secret police.

Sources informed the newspaper that Ajaero has been handed over to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

He was reportedly on his way to attend the Trade Union Congress (TUC) conference in the UK.

He had requested that the police invitation for him and the NLC General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, to come for questioning be rescheduled from September 5, 2024, to September 25, 2024.

NLC’s counsel, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), who accompanied him to the police headquarters for his initial appearance on August 29, revealed that the labour leaders might seek a postponement of the interrogation.

Falana further stated on Thursday, “We requested a new date as Comrade Joe Ajaero has a prior engagement outside Abuja today.”

The police had summoned Ajaero and Ugboaja for questioning over allegations of terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy, and treasonable felony.
