This decision stands in stark contrast to the moves of neighboring emirates Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah, which are swiftly positioning themselves to welcome casinos.
The United Arab Emirates laid the groundwork for legalized gaming in September, sparking a flurry of activity. Abu Dhabi, for instance, has already begun scouting potential locations for a casino, with Yas Island and a site near the city’s bustling port among the top contenders.
However, Dubai’s high-ranking government officials have concluded that introducing gambling is not currently aligned with the city’s priorities. This decision has been made despite the city’s thriving tourism sector. The duration of this hold on casino plans remains uncertain, and authorities may reconsider their stance should circumstances evolve.
