The security situation on the Idodo boundary axis of Ebonyi and the Enugu Expressway has worsened due to kidnappers’ criminal activities, leading many travelers to halt their journeys.

Nicholas Nworie, a trader based in Ebonyi, disclosed, “I postponed my all-important meeting in Enugu today because of the kidnapping incidents.” He lamented the lack of government intervention, stating, “Apart from myself, many others canceled the trip and it’s very unfortunate.”

Expressing concern, another source emphasized the unpredictability of the kidnappers, saying, “Someone in my street just came back from Enugu this afternoon and said that though they crossed safely, everyone inside their vehicle started praying as they approached Idodo.”

Narrating a recent incident, the source highlighted the brazenness of the kidnappers, stating, “Someone was kidnapped on Tuesday. They secured his release on Thursday. He was kidnapped before 3 pm. That same day, they (kidnappers) operated in the evening but a driver who escaped alerted those coming from Enugu and the road was deserted.”

The deteriorating security situation has paralyzed movement to and from Ebonyi State, with travellers expressing fear for their safety.

A call for urgent government intervention was echoed, with concerns raised over the lack of action despite repeated pleas.
