Ebonyi State Govt Spends N17.3 Billion in Airport Runway Renovation

The Ebonyi State Government announced on Wednesday that it has spent N17.3 billion on remedial work for the runway at Chuba Okadigbo International Airport in Abakaliki.

This announcement was made by Governor Francis Nwifuru during the celebration of his first year in office.

Governor Nwifuru stated that upon assuming office, his administration cleared five months of salary arrears owed to airport workers.

He confirmed that the runway’s remedial work is now complete, and significant repairs on the terminal building and control tower are well underway, setting the stage for the commencement of full flight operations at the airport.

The governor stated, “The remedial work at the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport runway has been completed. N17.3 billion was spent, while major repairs in the terminal building and control tower have commenced in earnest and in advanced stages. To this end, flight operations will commence fully at the airport.”

In addition to the airport renovations, Governor Nwifuru highlighted his administration’s efforts to enhance the state’s security infrastructure over the past year, recognizing the pivotal role of security in the effective implementation of governmental policies and programs.

The governor also reported the completion of several road projects aimed at boosting rural economies by facilitating the transport of agro-allied products to urban centers.

“This is further to our determination to grow our rural economies by ensuring agro-allied products are transported to the urban centres,” he added.

Notable completed projects include the Umuoghara Power Station road, Legacy FM road on concrete pavement, and the Obvuduechi market-lziogo road.

Governor Nwifuru reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for public-private sector partnerships, which he emphasized as essential for the state’s economic growth.
