In the midst of economic challenges across the nation, Pelumi Olajengbesi, a human rights lawyer based in Abuja, has called upon Nigerian billionaires to assist hungry citizens by contributing generously, akin to their charitable acts during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Olajengbesi emphasized the prevailing hunger in the country, warning of potential public unrest if the situation remains unaddressed.
He said, “Our dear country is going through one of the toughest times in history, economically, no thanks to the policies of the new government.
“Multinationals are exiting the country, thousands of jobs lost.
“There is hunger in the land. And as the saying goes, ‘a hungry man is an angry man’, hence, the protests spreading over the country as demonstrators express displeasure over the hardship in the land”.

He extended the comparison between the present difficulties in the nation and the COVID-19 pandemic four years prior, citing the notable philanthropic efforts of individuals like Aliko Dangote.
Dangote, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria, spearheaded the Private Sector Coalition Against COVID-19 during that time.
“It’s time for our billionaires and respected business moguls in the private sector to step in and provide succour for our teeming citizens, just like they graciously did during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said. #economic
