After Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger Republic withdrew from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Foreign Affairs Ministers of the regional bloc are currently convening in Abuja, Nigeria.
The ministers will also discuss the recent mass protests in Senegal, which ensued after the postponement of the country’s presidential elections.
Dr. Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, remarked that the meeting will address the withdrawal notifications from the three countries and their broader implications.

According to reports, the three military-led West African nations announced their immediate departure from ECOWAS on January 27, citing concerns that the organization posed a threat to its members.
