Edo 2024: The Labour Party Must Not Trade Governorship Ticket

My good people of Edo State I extend my heartfelt greetings, hoping this message finds you in good health. Today, I write not just as an individual but as a representative of a collective dream—a dream to change the course of our beloved state and country, Nigeria.

The direction we are heading saddens me deeply, and instead of just complaining, I chose to step into the realm of politics, aiming to be a part of the solution.

Our reasons for entering politics may differ, but my motivation remains clear: I seek to alter the narrative that has plagued our nation. I’ve observed with dismay the lack of differentiation within our own ranks, particularly in the Labour Party. Instead of learning from the mistakes of others, we seem intent on replicating failed strategies. This approach, I fear, will only lead to the same disappointing outcomes.

What breaks my heart is the shortsightedness of our purported leaders. Many of them seem driven by self-interest, a desire to grab and run without a thought for the party they claim to represent. It’s disheartening that their vision doesn’t extend beyond the present moment.

They fail to see that the choices we make today echo into our future. Our children inherit the consequences of our decisions, and the Nigeria we lament today is the result of past leaders’ choices.

The upcoming Edo 2024 elections have transformed into a financial battlefield, with money flowing freely to secure loyalties. I want no part in this. I refuse to accept any form of financial inducement from governorship aspirants.

This decision isn’t driven by my financial status, but by my conscience. Even in my days of hunger and unemployment, I served politicians without seeking a single kobo. Money has never been my driving force, and it never will be.

I implore those who share my vision for a better tomorrow to stand with me. Let’s scrutinize the candidates, not based on the weight of their pockets but on the content of their character and their dedication to the people. Any aspirant willing to spend millions to win an election is unlikely to serve society’s interests. We must identify leaders who genuinely understand our needs, leaders who appeal to our collective conscience.

As I conclude, I reaffirm my commitment to the path of good governance. Edo 2024 is a pivotal moment; we cannot afford to make the same mistakes again. I urge our leaders and delegates to focus on qualities that truly matter: integrity, dedication, and the ability to appeal to the masses. Let us not be swayed by shallow promises or deep pockets. Our state’s future rests in our hands, and together, we can ensure it is a future we can be proud of.

With best regards,

Mashido Osamudiamen Eghaghe
The People’s Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha LGA
