Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has accused the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) of being infiltrated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the leadership of acting National Chairman Umar Damagun.
Melaye made this statement in response to the recently concluded governorship election in Edo State.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the former senator expressed concern that the election results in Edo State indicate that Damagun is on a path to ruin the party.
According to Melaye: “With the destroyer called Damagun on the wheels, PDP is in the departure lounge waiting for the boarding pass.
“Edo experience will be a joke, there are more APC in the NWC than PDP.”
Asue Ighodalo, the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), lost in Saturday’s election.
According to the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ighodalo secured 247,274 votes.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, declared Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner, having received 291,667 votes.
In a related development, Dino Melaye had earlier criticized the PDP’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, accusing him of undermining the party.
Melaye claimed that the PDP’s founding leaders, such as Alex Ekwueme, Solomon Lar, Sunday Awoniyi, Adamu Chiroma, Tony Anenih, and Abubakar Rimi, would be “turning in their graves” over Damagum’s leadership approach.
