Nigerians are expressing confusion and fear after the Nigeria Police advised residents of Edo State to cast their votes in today’s governorship election and then return home.
This move raises suspicions of potential rigging, as the advice suggests that voters may not have the opportunity to protect their votes
Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Frank Mbah, who is overseeing security for the election, shared this directive during an interview on Channels Television on Friday.
He emphasized that only those accredited to monitor the election will be permitted on the streets.
Mbah announced a restriction on vehicular movement in the state from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., noting that the police had adjusted the curfew in response to citizens’ concerns.
He also mentioned that supporters from other states have gathered in Edo due to the election being held outside the regular cycle.
The DIG reassured that the police are responsible for ensuring the safety of everyone in the state, including journalists, observers, and politicians participating in the election.
“It is important for everybody to know that if you are not accredited to carry out the functions relating to the election, you shouldn’t be out on the streets,” Mbah said.

“If you are not an accredited personnel, just go out there, perform your civil duty, cast your votes, and return to your home.”
“You understand that this is an off-cycle election, this is one of the challenges we have to deal with,” he added.
