EFCC Arrests Man In Kaduna For $800 Fraud

The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, charged one Sunday Simon (also known as Ryan Eggold) to court for defrauding an American named Garri Kalish of the sum of $800.

Simon was taken into custody by EFCC officers from the Kaduna zonal command, and his phone was full of fake Instagram accounts.

Simon was charged with two counts of potential cybercrime.

Ome of the counts reads, “That you, Sunday Simon (a.k.a. Ryan Eggold), male, sometimes in April 2023 in Kaduna, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, did obtain the sum of $800 (eight hundred United States dollars) from one Garri Kalish, a citizen of the United States of America, under the pretense of being into a romantic relationship, a pretense you knew to be false, and you thereby committed an offense contrary to Section 1(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offence Act.”

Sunday Simon pleaded not guilty, and in light of the defendant’s plea, the prosecution’s attorney, K. Ogunlade, asked the court for a trial date and for the defendant to be kept in custody at the Kaduna Correctional Facility.

Ogunlade objected to the defense attorney’s oral bail application, which was made by K.S. Istifanus.

Justice Isiaka listened to both attorneys before ordering the defendant to be kept in custody at the Kaduna Correctional Center and postponing the case until October 24, 2023, for the hearing on the bail application.
