Pastor Tunde Bakare, overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, has voiced skepticism regarding the capacity of Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), to effectively combat corruption in the country.
Speaking at a men’s symposium held in Abuja to honor Pastor Chinedu Ezekwesili’s 70th birthday, Bakare emphasized that the prevailing solution to corruption in Nigeria lies not in institutional measures but in the emergence of righteous leadership guided by spiritual principles.
The cleric dismissed the efficacy of establishing committees to probe corruption, particularly when led by individuals tainted by corruption themselves, deeming such efforts futile.
Pastor Bakare stated, “There are many theories about how to end corruption in Nigeria, EFCC can’t do it; ICPC can’t fix it.
“The antidote to corruption is only one thing, the manifestation of the sons of God under righteous authority.
“Setting up committees to investigate corruption by corrupt individuals, who cannot execute it, is a waste of time,” he added.
