Corruption Scandal: EFCC Seizes Control of NSIPA Abuja Office, Detains CEO, Staff

Operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have assumed control of the Maitama office of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), situated at Taraba Close, off Limpopo Street, Maitama, Abuja.

This action follows the recent suspension of Halima Shehu, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and National Coordinator of NSIPA, amid allegations of financial malfeasance.

The EFCC officials, donned in black suits, red ties, and red outfits adorned with the EFCC insignia, were prominently present both inside and outside the office. Access to the premises was tightly restricted, preventing anyone from entering or exiting the building.

In what seemed to be a confrontation with suspected Department of State Services (DSS) personnel, the EFCC eventually took full control of the compound. Shehu, accompanied by her key officers and media aides, found themselves confined to their offices during the transition.

Sources within NSIPA revealed that the national coordinator, Halima Shehu, is expected to issue a statement once the situation becomes clearer. Currently, she is refraining from commenting on the unfolding events.

The suspension of Shehu has led to the cancellation of a scheduled event in Karu, where the agency intended to distribute cash grants and starter packs to vulnerable groups. Additionally, plans to address victims of organ trade on the black market in Abuja have been disrupted.

Shehu reportedly hurried to the Presidential Villa to verify the authenticity of the news, as she had not received any official letter of suspension at the time, leaving journalists awaiting her response at the event venue.
