Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has criticised a recent claim by Afenifere chieftain, Abagun Kole Omololu, that it will take eight years to realise the benefits of the Tinubu administration.
Reacting on his official X account on Friday, Effiong condemned what he described as a pattern of justifying government underperformance through extended timelines, calling it a strategy used by “political parasites” to shield leaders from accountability.
“8 is now the magical number for political parasites who are determined to fleece the country to death,” Effiong wrote. “They defended Buhari’s failures and nepotism for 8 years. Now we have to wait for another 8 years before we ‘realize the gains of the Tinubu Administration’?”
His post was in direct response to an Arise TV interview in which Omololu, who serves as the National Organising Secretary of Afenifere, stated:
“It will take 8 years to realise the gains of the Tinubu Administration. Afenifere believes that President Tinubu has shown remarkable political will to address the entrenched issues in Nigeria. While it’s a long-term process, we expect the benefits of this administration to become apparent within a few years.”
Effiong’s comments reflect growing frustration among critics who argue that successive Nigerian leaders have used time as a cover for inaction, failed reforms, or worsening socio-economic conditions.
