Electrocution Claims Life of Electrician in Abeokuta

An electrician identified as Dare has lost his life due to electrocution while attempting to repair an electrical fault in Unity Estate, Aregbe, located in the Obantoko area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when Dare climbed an electrical pole to assist his neighbor, Elijah, in rectifying the electrical issue.

At the time, there was a power outage, and Dare ventured up the pole to address the problem with the electric cables.

Tragically, just as he began his work, power was unexpectedly restored, resulting in a fatal electrocution, according to information obtained by Dailypost.

The Ogun State Police Command has officially confirmed the incident, extending their condolences to the family and community affected by this tragedy.

The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, revealed that Dare had been called upon to replace a faulty cable on the electrical pole. Regrettably, Dare lost his life in the course of replacing the cable, succumbing to electrocution.

In response to this distressing event, the Ogun State Police Command has initiated an investigation, with a primary focus on determining whether the electrical repair task Dare was undertaking should have been the responsibility of the trained personnel from the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

The investigation aims to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident and prevent similar incidents in the future.

“Dare was the electrician contacted to replace a bad cable, and in the process, he died.

“The Police is investigating to know if the job he was contacted to do was for only IBEDC who have more equipment to safe guard electrocution than ordinary electricians,” Odutola stated.
