Elon Musk, the founder of X, is gearing up to introduce his AI chatbot, Grok, which bears resemblance to ChatGPT. This innovative AI model is set to enter beta testing today, and Musk has described it as “the best that currently exists in some important respects.” Once the beta testing phase is complete, the xAI’s Grok system will become accessible to all X Premium+ subscribers.
Grok is designed to provide real-time access to information within the realm of X, and similar to ChatGPT, it possesses internet browsing capabilities, enabling it to scour the web for up-to-date information on specific topics. The model is conversational and can answer questions, possibly drawing on a knowledge base akin to that used to train ChatGPT and other text-generating models. Notably, Grok is imbued with a touch of humor in its responses, setting it apart from other models.
Call for AI Regulation
Elon Musk, an early investor in OpenAI before withdrawing his support, has reiterated his call for regulations on artificial intelligence. During an on-stage conversation with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at the recently concluded two-day UK AI Safety Summit, Musk expressed the need for regulations. He stated, “Regulation will be annoying, it’s true, but I think we’ve learned over the years that having a referee is a good thing.”
Elon Musk’s high-profile appearance alongside Sunak marked the culmination of a summit characterized by debates between those focusing on potential existential risks from AI and those concerned about immediate issues, such as AI’s potential to fuel discrimination and misinformation. Musk has repeatedly sounded alarms about AI’s future impact on civilization.

AI Safety
Amid mounting concerns about the technology’s impact, the highlight of the UK AI Summit this week was the signing of the “Bletchley Declaration” by 28 countries, including Nigeria, to promote AI safety. This agreement represents the world’s first initiative establishing a shared understanding of the opportunities and risks associated with frontier AI. It emphasizes the need for governments to collaborate in addressing significant challenges.
The declaration underscores the potential for severe, even catastrophic harm, whether intentional or unintentional, arising from the capabilities of these AI models. Signatory countries also acknowledged risks beyond frontier AI, including bias and privacy concerns.
These 28 countries, spanning regions like Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the EU, collectively pledged to comprehend and collectively manage potential risks through a global effort aimed at ensuring the development and deployment of AI in a safe and responsible manner for the benefit of the global community. #Elon Musk
