The Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, has said that the Port Harcourt refinery is set to commence operations by the end of December this year.
He disclosed this during a recent visit to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
The promise extends beyond Port Harcourt, with plans outlined for the Warri refinery to commence operations in the early months of 2024, followed by the Kaduna refinery later in the same year.
Kyari stated, “I can confirm to you that by the end of December this year, we will start the Port Harcourt refinery; early in the first quarter of 2024, we will start the Warri refinery; and by the end of 2024, the Kaduna refinery will come into operation.”

This announcement comes amid previous controversies and several shifts in the deadline for the Port Harcourt refinery.
However, Kyari’s assurance seeks to instill confidence in the commitment of the NNPCL to revitalize the nation’s refining capacity.
As the December deadline approaches, stakeholders will closely monitor the progress, hoping for a significant stride in Nigeria’s energy sector.
