Betta Edu out, Enitan in as Humanitarian Ministry Gets New Boss

Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has assumed leadership following the suspension of Minister Betta Edu.

This development follows the suspension of minister, Betta Edu by Bola Ahmed Tinubu over her alleged involvement in the financial misappropriation of over N500 million.

Enitan officially took charge after receiving a letter from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) on Monday night.

In an earlier statement by Tinubu’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, directed the suspended Minister to hand over to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

The statement read: “She is further directed by Bola Ahmed Tinubu to fully cooperate with the investigating authorities as they conduct their investigation.

“Furthermore, Tinubu has tasked a panel that is headed by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance to, among other functions, conduct a comprehensive diagnostic on the financial architecture and framework of the social investment programmes with a view to conclusively reforming the relevant institutions and programmes in a determined bid to eliminate all institutional frailties for the exclusive benefit of disadvantaged households and win back lost public confidence in the initiative,” the statement emphasised.
