Bola Tinubu has expressed deep concern over the escalating security challenges in the country, firmly telling the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the nation’s Security Chiefs that “enough is enough.”
In response, the NSA stated that security agencies have taken the President’s directives seriously and are actively working to implement them. Mallam Ribadu also claimed the nation’s security has improved, attributing most casualties to Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by terrorists.
Following a closed-door security meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Ribadu briefed State House correspondents, revealing that the President had instructed all heads of security agencies to bring an end to the killings by criminal elements and to restore peace and stability.
He said, “Mr. President gave us a chance to come and brief him, and it lasted very long. We gave him update of what has been the case and what is going on…”

The NSA explained that Tinubu had remained engaged in security matters even while outside the country, staying in constant contact and giving instructions. The Wednesday briefing, according to him, was comprehensive and covered developments from A to Z.

“We listened and we took instructions from him. We got new directives. The fact is, Mr. President is insisting and working so hard to ensure that we have peace, security and stability in our country,” he emphasized.
Ribadu highlighted that all the service chiefs had visited areas severely affected by violence, including Plateau, Benue, and Borno States, following the President’s orders. He said they had also liaised with political authorities in those states.
He added, “The issue of insecurity often is not just for the government. It involves the sub units…”
According to Ribadu, President has continued to stress the importance of collaboration with community and state-level leaders.
He said, “The President continues to direct that. We should be doing that, and that’s what we are able to do and we are very happy, very satisfied with the instructions and the directives given by Mr. President this evening.”
He reiterated that all arms of security, including the military, police, and intelligence agencies, are working round the clock to ensure peace and expressed confidence that they are “on the right course.”
While acknowledging that full security is yet to be achieved, he affirmed progress: “It’s not really 100 per cent that everything is safe and secure, but we are going there.”
He continued, “Things have changed in this country… Security is about relativity. What was it and what is it today?”
The NSA stressed that while any loss of life is regrettable, the overall situation has seen improvements and would continue to get better. He acknowledged the evolving tactics of terrorists, noting that many casualties resulted from hidden IEDs.
“We have also seen opportunistic attacks,” he said, explaining that such attacks often follow stretches of relative calm, making them feel more devastating.
He urged Nigerians to recognize the ongoing efforts and sacrifices of security personnel who “don’t sleep” and “do not go for any break or holiday,” working tirelessly to protect lives and restore order.
