Enugu High Court Awards Late Ojukwu’s Will to Bianca, Dismisses Challenge by Alleged Son

The Enugu State High Court has concluded the legal battle over the will of late Biafra leader, Dim Chukwemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, awarding it to his widow, Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu.

The court, presided over by Justice A.O Onovo, dismissed a suit brought by the late Chief (Dr) Debe Odumegwu Ojukwu, challenging the authenticity of the will and asserting his claim as the deceased’s first son.

Late Debe Odumegwu Ojukwu, who alleged to be Dim Chukwemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu’s first son, contested the validity of his father’s will, claiming he was not acknowledged and sought to restrain Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu from estate administration.

Following Debe Odumegwu Ojukwu’s demise in 2018, his daughters, Nene Grace and Obianuju Sarah, continued the legal battle.

After a thorough examination of evidence, Justice Onovo delivered a comprehensive judgment, lasting over two hours.

The court ruled that Debe Odumegwu Ojukwu failed to prove his biological paternity and dismissed claims of typographical errors and signatories’ authenticity in the will.

Additionally, the court found Debe Odumegwu Ojukwu’s children lacked the legal standing to challenge the will, as they failed to establish their status as the deceased’s grandchildren.

Consequently, the court upheld the validity of Dim Chukwemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu’s will and affirmed Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu’s position as the rightful widow and beneficiary.
