Amid Hardship, Enugu Governor Allocates N1.95 Billion to Purchase SUVs for 24 Lawmakers

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah is facing criticism after the approval of the 2024 appropriation bill, which allocates N1.95 billion for the procurement of new Toyota Prado SUVs for the 24 members of the state House of Assembly.

The budget, totaling N521.5 billion and recently signed into law, designates 79% (N414.3 billion) for capital expenditure and 21% (N107.2 billion) for recurrent expenditure.

According to Sahara Reporters, the specific allocation of N1,950,000,000 for the “Procurement of Toyota Prado jeep for newly elected House members” has drawn criticism, especially considering the state’s economic challenges.
