The Labour Party in Enugu state has raised an alarm over the alleged rigging of the Enugu South urban state Constituency bye election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party’s chieftain, Barrister Lucky Chukwu, told journalists on Saturday morning that INEC had already prepared the results for the election, which is taking place in eight polling units of the Constituency.
He claimed that the result sheets were missing and that the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Chukwuemeka Chukwu, and the police had taken them away at midnight.
He said: “I’ve vowed that democracy will survive. In Enugu South, at about midnight election results were carted away. The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Chukwuemeka Chukwu and the police carted away the result sheets. the results have already been written.”
He also alleged that the Electoral Officer, Francis Chigbo, was refusing to show the electorates the result sheets and that the results must be uploaded in IREV, a platform for transmitting election results electronically.
He challenged INEC to use the BVAS, a biometric verification device, to ensure the credibility of the election.

He added: “BVAS must be used, the Electoral Officer, Francis Chigbo refuses to show the electorates the results sheets, results must be uploaded in IREV and I challenge INEC to do that.”
He accused the REC of being inaccessible and working for the government to manipulate the election.
He said: “The REC has made himself invisible and inaccessible for him to achieve what he promised the government. I’m telling the security agencies to tell INEC not to cause problems.”
He urged the people of Enugu South to remain vigilant and protect their votes.
