Residents in Pain — Enugu Govt Orders Churches, Mosques to Remove Outdoor Loudspeakers in 90 Days

The Enugu State Government has issued a directive to all churches and mosques in the state, mandating the removal of outdoor loudspeakers within the next 90 days.

This decision was made during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Thursday, which included leaders from both Christian and Muslim communities, as well as government officials.

The meeting, organized by the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, focused on the implementation of the Enugu State Anti-Noise Pollution Policy. Uche Anya, the Chairman of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, announced the ultimatum, emphasising the need for places of worship to install soundproofing measures within their premises.

Anya underscored the urgency of the situation, stating that many residents are suffering due to the pervasive noise, and the government is committed to taking action to address the problem.

He highlighted that noise pollution has become a significant issue in the state, citing over 1,000 petitions his office has received from residents across various neighborhoods.
