Enugu State Government Issues Ultimatum to Construction Contractors, Demand Replacemenr for Damaged Infrastructure

In a move to preserve public utilities and protect essential amenities, the Enugu State government has issued a decisive 24-hour ultimatum to construction contractors. The directive demands the immediate replacement of damaged water pipes, street lights, and other infrastructure resulting from their activities.

The Enugu State Secretary to the Government (SSG), Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, delivered the stern warning during a high-stakes stakeholders’ meeting.

Prof. Onyia underscored the gravity of the situation, stating, “All parties involved in trenching within the state bear the responsibility of ensuring the protection and prompt replacement of existing facilities when damages occur.”

The ultimatum comes with a sharp edge, as the government threatens to blacklist and prosecute any contractors failing to comply with the stringent directive.
