Mrs. Mbah announced this benevolent initiative during an impromptu visit to the Ogui Police Station in Enugu, where the children were being cared for following the devastating incident.

Reports indicate that the mother, whose identity remains unknown, was reportedly grappling with depression exacerbated by the harsh economic conditions. In a desperate act, she abandoned her children at the police station, disrobed herself, and tragically ended her life by colliding with a vehicle.

Left without a mother, the young children, all under the age of six, found themselves in a precarious situation. When questioned about their father, the eldest child could only express confusion, indicating their father’s absence and a lack of further familial information.

Expressing her compassion and determination to make a difference, the First Lady announced that the scholarship program would encompass the children’s educational journey from nursery school through university.

Furthermore, Mrs. Mbah directed the immediate relocation of the children from the police station to a suitable home, ensuring the state government’s continued support and care.

In her address to the press, Mrs. Mbah emphasized the importance of seeking help and counseling for individuals struggling with depression. She urged authorities, particularly the Commissioner for the Ministry of Children, Gender, and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, to prioritize awareness and support services for those experiencing mental health challenges.

The tragic incident underscores the significant toll that economic hardships, exacerbated by government policies, are taking on Nigerian families. The compassionate response from Mrs. Mbah serves as a beacon of hope amidst such adversity, highlighting the importance of community support and empathy in times of crisis.
