GOALKEEPERS

Former Nigerian national team goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, has been honored by UEFA for his remarkable achievement as one of only four goalkeepers to have scored a goal in the history of the prestigious UEFA Champions League.

UEFA, the governing body for European football, recognized Enyeama alongside Ivan Provedel, Sinan Bolat, and Hans-Jorg Butt for their unique feat.

Enyeama’s historic goal came during his tenure with Israeli club Hapoel Tel Aviv in a match against Olympique Lyon of France on September 9, 2010.

Despite Hapoel Tel Aviv’s 3-1 defeat, Enyeama’s conversion from the penalty spot cemented his name in the annals of Champions League history.

Following his stint in Israel, Enyeama went on to have a successful career in France’s Ligue 1 with Lille, where he continued to showcase his exceptional goalkeeping skills.

Sinan Bolat and Ivan Provedel, like Enyeama, each scored one goal from the penalty spot, adding to the elite group of goal-scoring goalkeepers in Champions League history.
