Some residents of the Delta Central senatorial district are demanding the resignation of Ede Dafinone, the senator representing the area under the All Progressives Congress (APC), over what they describe as poor legislative performance.
At a press briefing held in Asaba on Friday, members of the Nigeria Polling Unit Forum (Delta State chapter) said they are prepared to initiate the process of recalling the senator from the National Assembly.

The group, led by Nicholas Evwienure, insisted that Dafinone has failed to represent the interests of his constituents since his election in 2023. “We, the eligible registered voters across party lines of Delta Central’s electoral district, are appealing to the senator representing Delta Central, Ede Dafinone, to resign honorably or face recall,” Evwienure declared.
Another resident, Abel John-Gold, threw his weight behind the campaign to remove the lawmaker from office. “Ede is sleeping in the senate; Ede has failed us. I strongly support the recall of Senator Ede Dafinone,” he told News Central TV. “He has failed in every ramification. He even forgot those who worked for him; he forgot those who campaigned for him. He forgot all his supporters,” John-Gold added.
Despite the growing calls for his removal, not all constituents agree with the recall move. A few voices urged caution and patience. “For me, he has not done badly, because you cannot use two years to gauge the performance of a legislator,” Nelson Egware said.
Josephine Omo-Dion, another constituent, also urged the public to give the senator more time to deliver. “I don’t think it’s necessary at this stage because he still has like two more years to go. He should be given time to bring in more things. At the end of these two years, if he is seen not to have made much impact, the electorate, which includes me, will decide to send him back there or not,” she said.
A recall process allows registered voters to remove an elected official before the end of their tenure. It requires the signatures of at least 50 percent of registered voters in the affected constituency, followed by a verification process by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Adelabu Bodjor, who serves as Dafinone’s chief of staff, dismissed the threat, describing it as “dead on arrival.”
Dafinone, one of the APC senators from Delta, has not publicly addressed the allegations or the recall campaign. The development adds to growing concerns about representation and accountability within the 10th Senate, especially from regions where expectations for development and effective legislation remain unmet.
