In Edo State, a civil servant who also engaged in farming, Inofomoh Gabriel, has been tragically killed by suspected terrorists believed to be herders.

The incident occurred in the Jattu community, which serves as the headquarters of the Uzairue clan in the Etsako West Local Government area of the state.

Reports indicate that Gabriel, who was also employed at Auchi Polytechnic, had ventured to his farm last Wednesday but failed to return home.

Concerned about his absence, community members organized search efforts in the surrounding bush areas, leading to the discovery of his lifeless body on Saturday.

He said, “The deceased went to the farm on Wednesday and never came back. A search party started combing the bush on Thursday and his corpse was eventually found on Saturday in the bush with matchet cuts all over his body.

“We are suspecting herders who have been kidnapping farmers in the area and in some cases killed some of their victims.”

The source stated that the matter had been reported at the Jattu Police Division while a source at the station confirmed the incident but said he was not authorised to speak.

When reached for comment, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, stated that he would provide further information after consulting with the divisional police officer of the Jattu division.
