The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has fired one of its high-ranking special agents, Walter Giardina, accusing him of “partiality” and political weaponisation of his office.
A letter dated August 8, signed by FBI boss Kash Patel, notifying Mr Giardina of his dismissal from service effective on Friday, emerged on social media.
“This document provides official notice that you are being summarily dismissed from your position at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and removed from the federal service, under my authority as the FBI Director, effective immediately,” the letter addressed to Giardina read.

The FBI accused Mr Giardina of exercising “poor judgment and a lack of impartiality in carrying out duties, leading to the political weaponisation of the government.”

It added, “Pursuant to Article II of the United States Constitution and the laws of the United States, your employment with the Federal Bureau of Investigation is hereby terminated.”
The FBI further said Mr Giardina has the right to file an appeal of his “removal with the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) within 30 days of the effective date of the removal action.”
There are reports that the FBI also sacked two other senior officials linked to the January 6 Capitol riot investigations.
Other top FBI agents fired on the same day included acting director Brian Driscoll and assistant director of the Washington Field Office, Steven Jensen.
