A major certificate forgery scandal has hit the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) after Kwara State Polytechnic disowned the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) certificate allegedly presented by Mr. Nwankwoeze Williamson Chijioke, the Director of Lands at the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
In a letter dated March 12, 2025, and signed by the institution’s Deputy Registrar (Academics), the Polytechnic stated that the OND certificate purportedly obtained by Chijioke “did not emanate from the institution.”
The letter was addressed to the civil rights organization Defenders of Public Norms and Bureau of Transparency Initiative (DPNBTI), which had petitioned the school to verify the authenticity of the document.
According to the Polytechnic’s response, the certificate was marked “FAKE” and the bearer was advised to produce the original statement of result for further verification — a condition Chijioke reportedly failed to meet.

The revelation has sparked outrage among transparency advocates, who allege that the FCTA official used the forged OND certificate to gain admission into Federal Polytechnic, Oko, where he later obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) and subsequently advanced his education to secure promotions in the civil service.
The civic group, DPNBTI, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Presidency, demanding Chijioke’s arrest and prosecution for forgery, perjury, and conspiracy.
Despite the weight of evidence, no concrete disciplinary action has reportedly been taken against the director. The group has now approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking an order to compel law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute the case.
