FG Shuts Down Abuja Supermarket As Clampdown On Hoarding, Price Fixing Commences After Tinubu’s Directive

Abuja

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission took action on Friday by shutting down Sahad Store, a well-known supermarket located in the Garki area of Abuja.

Acting on behalf of the FCCPC, Adamu Ahmed Abdullahi led the team that closed the store following accusations of customer exploitation, as reported by Daily Trust.

Abdullahi confirmed that the preliminary investigation revealed instances where the supermarket’s management had been unfairly pricing items, contrary to the displayed prices on the shelves.

Consequently, the store will remain closed until a thorough investigation is conducted. This development occurred shortly after SaharaReporters disclosed that Bola Tinubu had instructed key security agencies—the Inspector General of Police, Department of State Services, and National Security Adviser—to apprehend individuals stockpiling food items in warehouses nationwide.

This directive was issued during a meeting between Tinubu and governors held in Abuja on Thursday. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, conveyed this message through a press statement.

The statement emphasized the urgency of tackling the escalating prices of food items in the market, urging all state governments to follow Kano State’s lead in monitoring major food distributors within their jurisdictions.
